STI Testing & Treatment

Confidential. Compassionate. At No Cost to You.

At ThriVe® Metro East, we provide no cost or low-cost STI testing and treatment for women in a safe, respectful, and confidential setting. Whether or not you have symptoms, regular STI testing is an essential part of protecting your reproductive health—especially if you are considering abortion.

We currently test for:

  • Chlamydia

  • Gonorrhea

  • HIV

  • Syphilis

  • Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

  • Trichomoniasis

Certain criteria may apply for testing and treatment. Call or schedule an appointment to learn more.

🧠 Why STI Testing Matters Before Abortion

Even if you aren't experiencing symptoms, it's possible to have an active STI. If left untreated, infections like Chlamydia or Gonorrhea can spread during an abortion procedure and lead to serious complications such as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)—a condition that can damage reproductive organs and increase the risk of infertility.

STIs linked to PID:
  • Chlamydia

  • Gonorrhea

  • Bacterial Vaginosis

Symptoms of PID may include: pelvic pain, pain or bleeding during sex, unusual discharge, fever, and more.
There is no single test for PID—diagnosis is often based on clinical findings, ultrasound, or laparoscopy.

    • Tertiary: may affect internal organs

  • Test: Blood draw

  • Eligibility: Females 15–64; male screening criteria apply.

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)
  • Not an STI, but increases risk of contracting one.

  • Symptoms: Thin white/gray discharge, fishy odor, itching.

  • Test: Vaginal swab

Trichomoniasis
  • Often no symptoms, but may include yellow-green discharge, itching, and irritation.

  • Test: Vaginal swab

  • Eligibility: Females 15+ may be tested.

🛡️ STI Prevention Tips
  • The only 100% effective way to avoid STIs is to abstain from vaginal, anal, and oral sex.

  • Condoms may reduce risk when used correctly and consistently—but human error decreases effectiveness.
